Volunteer Monitoring

Why Monitor?

Monitoring a stream, a lake or a wetland can lead to a new appreciation for these water bodies. Monitoring provides an increased understanding of how these water bodies function, the changes that occur over time, and how these changes are influenced by land uses and activities upstream. What is Volunteer Monitoring?

Most of the volunteer monitoring programs in Utah are designed for educational purposes - to help students and adults better understand how our water bodies change and what these changes mean. It's also a lot of fun. You are provided with a chance to get your feet wet, check out some cool critters who live in these waters and explore new territory.

USU Water Quality Extension provides several alternatives to citizens interested in monitoring their waters.
