Building wealth starts when you set a goal and make a plan to reach that goal. Whatever goal you choose—whether it’s buying a car, buying a house, or getting out from under your debts—learn about proven savings strategies and get simple tips on the best ways to save. Learn how to: save on auto purchases, save for a home, save for emergencies, save at work, save and invest, and get out of debt.
Utah Saves is a statewide coalition of nonprofits, financial institutions, credit-counseling organizations, employers, government agencies, faith-based groups, and others. The mission of Utah Saves is to build long-term economic stability and prevent poverty by helping all Utahans build wealth, reduce debt, and create lifelong financial security.
Who is a Utah Saver? Any Utah resident who agrees to work toward a savings goal such as home ownership, school tuition, retirement, or even debt repayment. Utah Savers set savings goals of as little as $10 per month and try to save this amount every month.
What membership benefits are available? —No-fee or low-fee savings accounts offered to Utah Savers by many financial institutions. —Free informational and motivational workshop with strategies on how anyone can save and build wealth. —Free one-on-one planning consultation with a wealth coach. —Free advice from a financial planner. —Free seminars by financial experts on how to pay off debts, spend less, get good deals, qualify for a home mortgage, set up a retirement account, or select a savings or investment product. —Wealth-building clubs run by Utah Savers that meet monthly to provide information, assistance, and support. —Access to financial products, services, and resources available to all Utah Savers.
So what does all this cost me? Nothing! Your only obligation is to develop a specific saving goal, select an account, make a deposit in this account each month (or make a debt payment), and let us know that you are working toward your goal.
Who controls my savings account? You do. You open the account in your name. We only advise and encourage.
How do I become a Utah Saver? Visit the USU Extension office in Summit County at 45 E. 100 N. Coalville and receive a “Utah Saves” piggy bank. You can also call the Utah Saves Moneyline at 1-800-350-9899 or enroll online at www.utahsaves.org.
