The addition of manure to other decaying organic matter to compost is a valuable and safe practice to manage animal waste. Composting reduces the volume of manure, kills parasites, reduces weed seeds, provides slow release fertilizer, reduces odor, and increases soil fertility. Compositing requires 2/3 oxygen, 50% moisture, 30:1 carbon to nitrogen ratio, and warm temperatures.
