USU Extension Master Gardener Program

The purpose of the USU Extension Master Gardener Program is to develop a network of trained volunteers who can provide the Salt Lake community with unbiased, research-based horticultural information and technical assistance in gardening and home horticulture.

The "Master" does not mean you know everything about gardening. The "Master" in Master Gardener means you are a horticulture volunteer for Utah State University Extension.

USU Extension Master Gardeners volunteer at several projects throughout Salt Lake County. In 2011, USU Extension Master Gardeners contributed over 2,600 volunteer hours toward education and volunteer projects in the Salt Lake community.

Interested in becoming a Master Gardener?

The USU Extension Master Gardener volunteer training involves 40 hours of college-level horticulture instruction taught by Utah State University Extension Specialists and Extension Faculty. Another 40 hours of hands-on volunteer project service is required to receive full certification as a USU Extension Master Gardener.

Registration for our 2012 volunteer training program has now closed.
