Description:

Plate 918X. Williamson Ranch 1952 – 2005 Viewed east to the Williamson Ranch Parker Three-Step Transect on upper Red Creek above Paragonah, Utah. The black line in the 1952 image is the approximate location of the transect - - see Plates 916x and 917x. The old log cabin has been removed. Shown is USFS road 076. Snowberry and silver sage have increased, while willows appear unchanged. Spruce, Douglas fir, and white fir have increased in the distance. The aspen stand on top of the first low ridge beyond the truck has not regenerated and most of the mature trees have died. The aspen clone on the right, however, regenerated 30 years ago when mule deer numbers were low but not since due to repeated herbivory (Kay and Bartos 2000). Conifers have increased in the distance. The area is grazed by cattle, deer, and elk.
