Plate 1274X. Whiteman Bench Exclosure 1957 – 2006 Viewed south to the Whiteman Bench Exclosure in Bryce Canyon National Park. The exclosure was built by the Park Service in 1957 as part of a mule deer study. The fence is 8 feet tall. Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, juniper, snowberry, and bitterbrush have increased inside the fenced area. The large tree seen inside the exclosure in 1957 has fallen and been removed by the Park Service as it landed on the fence, which has been repaired.
