Plate 1273X. Whiteman Bench Exclosure 1957 – 2006 Viewed west to the Whiteman Bench Exclosure in Bryce Canyon National Park. The exclosure was built by the Park Service in 1957 as part of a mule deer study. The fence is 8 feet tall. Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, juniper, snowberry, and bitterbrush have increased inside the fenced area. The meadow has been and is being lost to conifer invasion.
