Plate 1225X. Virgin River 1963 – 2006 Viewed southeast up the Virgin River west of Grafton and south of Zion National Park. Utah Highway 9 has been realigned and it is no longer possible to climb the steep road-cut where the original photo was taken. Thus, the retake was made from the southside of the highway. Nonetheless, it is evident that there has been a dramatic increase in woody riparian vegetation - - cottonwoods, willows, tamarisk, and Russian olive.
