Upper Sevenmile Valley

1953

1996

Description:

Plate 23. UPPER SEVENMILE VALLEY: 1953 - 1996 Conifers on the distant hillside have increased while aspen (Populus tremuloides) declined. Most of the aspen stands are now heavily invaded by conifers, primarily spruce (Picea sp.), as would be expected in the absence of fire. Silver sage (Artemisia cana) appears to have increased since 1953, but willow (Salix sp.) appears unchanged. The road behind the cattle is more visible in 1996 and has been rutted and eroded by vehicles.
