Description:

Plate 702X. Grass Valley 1959 – 1959 – 2004 Viewed northwest across Grass Valley. The area had been root-plowed and reseeded with crested wheatgrass to improve range conditions during the early 1950’s. The first photo was taken in late June before the area was grazed by cattle, while the second photo was taken three weeks later after utilization on crested wheatgrass reached 75%. Today, however, mountain big sage has begun to reinvade the seeding. Pinyon and juniper have increased in the distance. Plates 700x, 701x, 702x, and 703x form a panorama.
