Strawberry Creek Sawmill

1933

2005

Description:

Plate 879X. Strawberry Creek Sawmill 1933 – 2005 Viewed north to the old sawmill on Strawberry Creek. The area in the foreground was an active construction site in 2005, so the retake was made from just beyond the mill in the initial image. Shown in the retake is Strawberry Creek. The entire area is private property, and the distant hillsides are now a maze of roads and summer homes. Conifers, primarily ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, white fir, and spruce, have increased, while aspen has declined. With the build-up of forest fuels, it is only a matter of time until a high-intensity crown fire sweeps the area, destroying property and possibly life.
