Plate 1224X. Smithsonian Butte 1938 – 2006 Viewed southwest to Smithsonian Butte (6,632 ft) south of Zion National Park. Pinyon and juniper now block the original photopoint, so the retake was made from the nearest open area. As pinyon and juniper have increased, sagebrush and blackbrush have declined.
