Description:

Plate 406X. Sheep Creek Flat 1960 – 2004 Viewed northeast across Sheep Creek Flat. In the distance are Powell Point (10,188 ft. - - photo center-left edge) and Canaan Peak (9,293 ft. - - photo center). The open areas in the original photograph were root-plowed and reseeded with crested wheatgrass a year or two before that image was made. Nevertheless, mountain big sagebrush, pinyon and juniper have all increased. Birchleaf mountain mahogany is also present. There was some old cattle sign, but livestock had not grazed the area in 2004. Mule deer use was very light and there was no elk sign.
