Plate 253. ROCKY CANYON SOUTH CREEK 1963-2000 Plates 252 and 253 form a panorama from southeast to south at the mouth of Rocky Canyon near Beaver, Utah. Plate 252 is viewed south and the original shows a helicopter spraying sagebrush on the South Creek Allotment. With time, though, sagebrush has reinvaded the site and appears to be more plentiful today than it was in 1963 - - except where sage was recently prescribe burned by the Forest Service - - note the burn pattern in the retake. Pinyon-juniper has also increased, as has oakbrush. Curlleaf mountain mahogany is also present on the distant hillsides and bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata) is present in the sagebrush community. The area is heavily grazed by cattle.
