Pine Park

Description:

Plate 1479X. Pine Park 1941 – 2007 Viewed northeast to Pine Park in the Pine Valley Mountains near the Utah-Nevada border. Woody vegetation now blocks the original camera station, so the retake was made from the nearest open area. Ponderosa pine, pinyon, and juniper have increased, as have willows along the creek that originates at Pine Park Spring. Oakbrush and Utah serviceberry have also increased. After the initial image was made, the Forest Service built a road into the area, as well as a small campground in Pine Park. The road has since washed out and the campground abandoned because of high rates of erosion due to the area’s underlying geology - -volcanic welded tuff.
