Oak Creek Reservoir

1935

2002

Description:

Plate 87X. Oak Creek Reservoir 1935-2002 Viewed southwest across Oak Creek Reservoir to Boulder Top (10,800 ft.). The photopoint is on the outlet dam and the original was taken shortly after the reservoir was constructed - - note all the standing dead trees and floating timber in the water. Most of that woody debris has since found its way to the bottom or has been removed by government officials. Conifers, primarily spruce, have increased while aspen has declined. All aspen stands have been heavily invaded by conifers. The reservoir was at maximum drawdown in 2002 due to the extended drought and downstream water demands.
