Noon Creek

1960

2004

Description:

Plate 403X. Noon Creek 1960 – 2004 Viewed west up Noon Creek one mile east of Bryce Canyon National Park. The original photograph was apparently taken early in the spring as the oakbrush was not yet leafed-out. The benches along the stream were root-plowed and reseeded with crested wheatgrass a year or two prior to when the initial photograph was taken. The original photo was taken from the old Forest Service trail - - not the present USFS trail - - but that view is now blocked by pinyon, juniper, and oakbrush, so the retake was made from the nearest open area, which is at a slightly lower elevation. Pinyon, juniper, mountain big sage, and oakbrush have all increased. The area was not grazed by livestock in 2004. There was some use by mule deer and none by elk.
