Niotche Creek

1938

1996

Description:

Plate 20. NIOTCHE CREEK: 1938 - 1996 Musina Peak and the Wasatch Plateau are in the distance. The shrub in the left foreground of both pictures is elderberry (Sambucus sp.). Other shrubs above the stream are willow (Salix spp.), which appears to have increased in both height and density. Aspen (Populus tremuloides) have increased in height. Conifers, primarily spruce (Picea sp.), have grown taller and more numerous. Many of the aspen stands do not appear to have been invaded by conifers, which is a rarity in southern Utah. This is part of the climax aspen zone on the north side of the Fishlake Plateau.
