Plate 540X. Mount Carmel Junction 1939 – 2004 Viewed east up an unnamed canyon about a mile south of Mount Carmel Junction on U.S. Highway 89. Seen in the distance are the White Cliffs. Pinyon and juniper have increased. In addition, the wash is more heavily vegetated today than in earlier times. Other shrubs include oakbrush, Wyoming big sage, and birchleaf mountain mahogany.
