Plate 532X. McDonald Lake 1939 – 2004 Viewed east to McDonald Lake at Alton Junction. The area in the foreground has been treated and reseeded with intermediate wheatgrass. Pinyon, juniper, and ponderosa pine have increased, the latter despite selective logging. Aspen has increased in height, but has not regenerated in recent years due to excessive ungulate herbivory (Kay and Bartos 2000). The highway to Alton (photo left) has been widened and paved.
