Plate 28. LOWER GOOSEBERRY VALLEY: 1938 - 1996 The road in the 1996 photo has been widened and paved, altering much of the vegetation in the foreground. Pinyon (Pinus edulis) and juniper (Juniperus spp.) have increased, except where cleared below the road in right center of 1996 photo. There is also recent pinyon-juniper chaining on the distant hillside above Salina Canyon. The irrigated hay land and most of the fore- and mid-ground are in private ownership.
