Description:

Plate 531X. Long Valley 1931 – 2004 Viewed north up the East Fork of the Virgin River in Long Valley about one half-mile below McDonald Canyon. The initial image was taken to document the headwall erosion that was occurring in 1931. Since then, willows have increased and streambank erosion has stopped - - despite yearly grazing by cattle on this private pastureland. Pinyon, juniper, and ponderosa pine have increased in the distance.
