Plate 859X. Kanab Creek 1932 – 2005 Viewed northeast - - Kanab Creek is on the left, while John R Canyon is on the right. A new road has been built up Kanab Canyon - - photo left. In addition, a road now crosses Kanab Creek from left to right. Woody riparian vegetation has increased dramatically. Willows and cottonwoods are common, but tamarisk and Russian olive are also present. The stream channel has narrowed and is more stable today than it was in the past. Pinyon and juniper have increased, as have sagebrush, rubber rabbitbrush, skunkbrush (Rhus trilobata), oakbrush, and cheatgrass.
