East Creek

1947

2006

Description:

Plate 1258X. East Creek 1947 – 2006 Viewed northeast up the North Fork of East Creek in Bryce Canyon National Park. This image is similar to Plate 1257x but the original image was taken 2 years later during a flood event. The right bank in the 1947 photo has eroded away, so the retake was made from the left bank, which accounts for the slightly different perspective. The check dams appear to have worked and there is no evidence of recent erosional events. Ponderosa pine has increased. Shrubs have increased including bitterbrush, black sage, and rubber rabbitbrush. The road has been realigned, widened, and paved.
