East Creek

1945

2006

Description:

Plate 1263X. East Creek 1945 – 2006 Viewed northeast up the North Fork of East Creek in Bryce Canyon National Park. This view is similar to Plate 1262x but was taken 10 years later with a longer focal-length lens. Ponderosa pine now block the original camera station, so the retake was made from the nearest open area, which is closer to the first check dam. The park road is on the right. Shrubs have increased and include bitterbrush, black sage, rubber rabbitbrush, and shrubby cinquefoil. Ponderosa pine has increased as have native grasses. There is no sign of recent erosional events.
