Plate 311X. Casto Canyon 1943 - 2003 Viewed southeast over the head of Casto Canyon. Showalter Creek is on the left and Casto Canyon is on the right. The tall shrubs on the ridge are curlleaf mountain mahogany, which has increased. Pinyon, juniper, ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, and limber pine have all increased. Note the road into the head of Casto Canyon in the retake, as well as the new gully plugs and stock ponds built by the Forest Service.
