Plate 1362X. Brian Head 1966 – 2006 Viewed north to Brian Head (11,307 ft). The old road seen in the 1966 image has naturally revegetated. Utah Highway 143 has been realigned and paved - - note the pickup truck on the new right-of-way in the retake. Spruce on the left have increased in height. The foreground is a snowbank site, which accounts for the sparse vegetation in that area. This subalpine range is grazed yearly by domestic sheep. Many of the older spruce on Brian Head were recently killed by insects and disease.
