Assay Bench

1921

2005

Description:

Plate 968X. Assay Bench 1921 – 2005 Viewed east to the stock pond on Assay Bench. The area has been root-plowed and reseeded with smooth brome, crested wheatgrass, and intermediate wheatgrass to eliminate sagebrush and improve forage production. Most of the large ponderosa pines in the 1921 image have been logged and the area behind the pond was also swept by the Unita Flat Wildfire in 1989. Nonetheless, ponderosa pine and juniper have increased. Mountain big sage, bitterbrush, green rabbitbrush, and currant have re-invaded the treated area. The site was actively being grazed by cattle in 2005.
