Annie Laurie Mine

Description:

Plate 165 ANNIE LAURIE MINE: 1917 - 1999 These photos view toward the Annie Laurie mine and mill at Kimberly. The 1917 photo was taken in the spring before the aspen (Populus tremuloides) leafed out. Years of mining have disturbed the surrounding vegetation. The 1999 photo shows how well the area has revegetated naturally. Most of the aspen has been heavily invaded by conifers, primarily spruce (Picea sp.) and Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), and none of the aspen has regenerated successfully in recent years.
