4-H Youth Activities at the Juab County Fair

The 4-H youth development and leadership program slogan is ‘Learn by Doing’ and the motto is to ‘Make the Best Better.’  The Mission of 4-H:  4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.  The four H’s in 4-H stand for Head—managing, thinking; Heart—relating, caring; Hands—giving, working; Health—being, living.
Come to the Juab County Fair August 6-9 and see what our 531 4-H youth members, 21 Teen Council, and 86 volunteer leaders have been doing all year.  The following 4-H activities and events will be held:
4-H Horse Show:  The 4-H horse program is designed to be educational, activity oriented, and fun for those who become involved.  The Juab County Fair Horse Show will be held on Tuesday, August 5, at 10 am at the Juab County Fairgrounds.  This year’s judged events are Showmanship, Horsemanship, Trail, and the written test which measures the youth’s knowledge of horsemanship, horse science, and horse care.  The speed events are Poles, Barrels, and Quadrangle Stake Race.
Fashion Revue:  Contestants will model the outfit they have sewn at the Fashion Revue which will be held for family, friends and the general public during the county fair on Wednesday, August 6th, at 7 pm in the Multi-Purpose building.  Winners will be announced and awards will be presented at the end of the show that evening.  Contestants will be judged on construction, personal presentation and interview responses prior to the Wednesday show.
4-H Exhibits:  The County Fair gives 4-H members the opportunity to show off all the projects they have been working on.  The exhibits are judged with the standard ‘Best of Class’ Rosette, and Blue, Red, and White ribbons.  In addition, all exhibits that are exceptional receive a lavender ribbon, indicating that the exhibit is eligible to be judged at the State Fair.  The different categories available in 4-H are:  Citizenship/Civic Education, Communications and Expressive Arts, Consumer and Family Sciences, Environmental Education and Earth Sciences, Healthy Lifestyle Education, Personal Development and Leadership, Plants and Animals, and Science and Technology.  In 2013, 714 4-H exhibits were displayed at the county fair and 107 exhibits were eligible to go on to the State Fair in Salt Lake City.
Jr. Livestock Show and Auction:  The 4-H livestock members have spent many hours working with their sheep, hogs, and market steers in preparation for the fair.  The Junior Fitting and Showmanship Contest for Market Steers is Wednesday, August 6, at 3 pm, with the Judging on Thursday at 4 pm.  Swine Fitting and Showmanship is on Thursday, August 7, at 8 am, with the Judging at 8:30 am.  Thursday, August 7, at 12 noon is the Sheep Fitting and Showmanship Contest, followed by the Judging at 12:30 pm.  The Junior Livestock Auction is Friday, August 8, at 6 pm.
