Range & Pasture Improvement
On Monday, February 10th, Juab County Extension will be sponsoring a range and pasture improvement workshop. The meeting will be held in the Commission Room, Juab County Center, 160 North Main, in Nephi from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. There is a $5 fee and lunch will be provided. Specialists from Wyoming will be the presenters. This program seeks to provide ranchers with a tool for making good range and pasture investment decisions, and to provide training in range strategies and risk management. Anyone interested in these areas are invited to attend.
On Thursday, February 13th, in cooperation with the Farm Bureau, Juab County Extension will be sponsoring a pesticide workshop for anyone interested. The meeting will be held at the Juab County Cultural Hall from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
Farm Bureau Safety specialist A. J. Ferguson, will be the presenter. The meeting will cover the following three areas: label is the law, pesticide record keeping systems, and pesticide safety. All producers that currently have a Utah Pesticide License will receive 2 CEU credits for attending. We would encourage all of you to attend and learn more about pesticide management.
Urban & Small Farms Conference
The Urban & Small Farms Conference will be held Feb. 19-20, 2014 at Thanksgiving Point, Utah.
This is an exciting conference that will give participants the opportunity to engage in hands-on workshops including developing marketing assessments, communicating with customers electronically, and analyzing potential enterprises. Conference Highlights include: Direct Marketing, Utah Berry Growers Association, Growing Organic Vegetables, Organic Fruit Production, Protected Cultivation, Freeze Protection in the Field, Hydroponics and Aquaponics, From Farm to Table, Small Farm Management, and Land Leasing.

Utah Weed Conference
On February 18-19th, the Utah Weed Association will be holding their annual conference in St. George.
It will cover a wide range of topics including noxious weed control, crop weed control, invasive weed management efforts, and what’s new in the industry.
All producers that currently have a Utah Pesticide License will receive CEU credits for attending. The conference will start at 9:00 am on the 18th and go to 3:00 pm on the 19th. The registration fee is $65. To register for the conference go to www.utahweed.org.
Utah Beef Cattle Field Day
‘Focus on Health’ is the theme for the Annual Utah Beef Cattle Field Day which will be held Tuesday, February 11th, 2014 at the BYU Conference Center, 770 East University Parkway, Provo, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Topics to be covered include: Vaccine Technology, Vitamins and Minerals, Pasture Health Challenges, Poisonous Plants, Parasite Control, and Mineral Mixes for the Farm or Ranch.
The Annual Trade Show will also be included. Registration fee is $25.
Water Users’ Workshop
St. George will be the host site for the 2014 Utah Water Users’ Workshop on March 17-19th. The conference will cover a wide range of topics, some of which include: Water Outlook, Water Rights Issues, Legislative Update on Water Bills, Replacing Irrigation Diversions/Diverting Disaster, Well Reconditioning, Crop Management/Raising More with Less (Land, Labor, Water), Snow Science Technology, Aquifer Storage & Recovery Projects, Ground Water Fracking/Water Quality Issues, The Value of Conservation, and Critical Issues Facing Utah Agriculture.
