Purpose of Program

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 30-60 percent of urban fresh water is used in the landscape.  Increasing urbanization, irresponsible use of the resource, and drought are placing greater demands on our water supply.  The USU Extension Service and the Central Iron County Water Conservancy District have teamed together to create the Water Efficient Landscape Check-up.  The goal of this program is to recognize and show case those responsible, water efficient landscapes in Iron County.

To be certified, your yard must:

1. Score at least 50 points on the following checklist
2. Must receive credit for practices marked with an asterisk*
3. Reside in Iron County

If your water efficient landscape check-up totals at least 50 points out of the possible 100, contact the Utah State University Extension office for further information.

Certified Landscapes will receive a yard sign, certificate, and be featured on our web site.  Certification lasts for 2 years.

Win a $100 Gift Card!

In October, the participating landscapes will be judged on the topics listed in this brochure.  The winning landscape will receive a $100 gift card to Big Trees Nursery, in Kanarraville, UT.  Prizes will also be presented to the 2nd & 3rd place winners.
