Internship duties:

- Biological weed control survival reports, trapping and determining survival of biological weed control agents;

- Determine presence or absence of invasive phragmities along the Price River. Involves floating stretches of the river or hiking into remote locations;

- Landscape water audits in Carbon County. Determine efficiency of landscape irrigation systems. May involve recruiting some homeowners to participate in the water audit.

Internship duties: Environmental Stewardship Extension internship located at the Utah House, Utah State University Botanical Center in Kaysville. This internship includes 6 weeks serving the public in the USUBC K-6 field trip education program, 10 weeks in the Utah House Aggie Camp program and educating the public by giving general tours of the Utah House and water-wise landscape. The work with the Aggie Camps includes working with a group of youth volunteers. The intern will work with Utah House staff maintaining the UH garden, including the raised-bed demonstration garden.

Internship duties: Assist with data collection, data management, and day-to-day operations of vegetable research at the Kaysville Research Farm. Work will include exposure to onions, sweet corn, asparagus, beans, and broccoli.

-Help organize and conduct tours for the Kaysville Farm Field Day scheduled for August 16. Discuss research and how it can help Utah farmers.

-Work on organization of existing research findings and use that information to populate the USU organic website. Work would include report writing, fact sheet development, organization, and publications.

Internship duties: Organize and advertise 4-H activities for a 4-H Community Club of 20+ members, perform general secretarial duties including calling members about enrollment, contacting 4-H leaders, answering phones, writing articles for newsletter, and general paperwork. Organize and conduct a Sewing Camp, Cooking Camp, and 4-H Field Day. Prepare for Duchesne County Fair by organizing money and livestock animals to be shown and sold at auction. Organize Jr. Contest with the help of Extension staff. Help enter exhibits at the county fair. Update Extension county web page. 

Location: Richfield

Hours per week: 40

Hourly wage: $8.25

Internship duties:

- Conduct observations of waste (bin audits recyclables in bins etc.);

- Conduct focus groups with community regarding perceived barriers/benefits of a recycling program, and what type of program they would prefer;

- Survey design and administration;

- Data analysis, and

- Campaign logo and messaging (marketing) strategies for program.

FCHD Extension Intern

Location: Logan

Hours per week: 10-20

Hourly wage: $9.50

Start date: 05/07/12

Internship duties: Assist a graduate student with processing and counting onion thrips samples. Onion thrips are the key insect pest of onions in Utah and vector a devastating virus disease. Thrips will be extracted from onion plant samples and the multiple life stages counted under a dissecting microscope.

Western Rural Development Center Data Entry Specialist

Location: Lehi

Hours per week: 20-40

Hourly wage: $10

Start date: 05/10/12

Internship duties: Assist with helping to preparing numerous horticulture publications for USU websites and assisting to populate the USU Master Gardener website with reliable horticulture information to the USU website and to the various county websites with master gardener programs. The individual will also assist in helping to supervise the USU demonstration garden, help with conducting garden education classes and participating in helping with training at Master Gardeners labs.  They will help set up a joint educational website information to link the very popular Thanksgiving Point website with USU's website for horticulture information to look at distributing information on other social media sites. This will be a good opportunity for someone who wants to work at the beautiful, 55 acre Thanksgiving Point Gardens and also be involved in educating people in horticulture in many different ways.
