PROGRAMS

INTENSIVE ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTITUTE (IELI) The purpose of the academic IELI curriculum is to take non-native English speakers to a level in the English language proficiency that allows them to compete successfully in university classes that are taught in English. The IELI curriculum, therefore, is oriented toward language, culture, and academic skills necessary for successful university work. This program prepares students to meet the English competency requirement which, must be met by all non-native English speakers in order to be admitted to Utah State University. Students from English speaking countries do not have to meet this requirement.

ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE DEGREE This degree meets the common body of knowledge requirements of Utah State University and other United States’ universities (see degree requirements). This degree emphasizes principles of business administration, communication, accounting, economics, information technology and prepares students for jobs in business, industry, and government (62-65 credits).

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES WITH EMPHASES IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY & INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS This interdisciplinary degree builds upon the solid foundation of the Associate of Science Degree. It enlarges the educational experience in the disciplines of business administration, human resource management, information technology, and economics. The English language and literature components develop the student’s communicative abilities and heightens their cultural awareness and increases their knowledge of the diversity of the peoples of the world (60 credits in addition to the Associate of Science Degree).

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

All students seeking a degree must submit an application for admission to Utah State University through the local site. This requires fifty U.S. dollars ($50.00), non-refundable application fee that must accompany the appropriate application.

Degree seeking students must be admitted to the university. Matriculation normally requires that students have a high school diploma or its equivalent, official transcripts and certificates, or certified true copies for each secondary school, college, and university attended with official English translation of all documents. Non-native English speakers must pass the TOEFL examination with a pencil score of 500 or computer score of 173 or with a minimum score of 5.0 in the IETLS, or pass level IV of Utah State University Intensive English Program.

ADMISSION Students who successfully complete the Associate of Science Degree may enroll in Utah State University’s Interdisciplinary Bachelor Degree (see below). Students who wish to continue their studies at Utah State University’s main campus in Logan, Utah, must complete the visa process. Utah State University will assist students in the visa process by providing financial as well as personal information. However, Utah State University CANNOT guarantee that students will receive a visa; that decision rests with the United States and in the country embassies.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS In order to obtain a degree, students must meet the degree requirements as stated in the current Utah State University General Catalog. Students are subject to the policies and procedures as stated in the catalog unless the appropriate authority alters requirements. Students receiving an undergraduate degree from Utah State University must complete the general education (common body of knowledge) requirement. General education involves a series of courses, which stimulate and assist students in becoming self-reliant scholars and individuals. Students must complete 31 semester hours of general study courses. They are Communications Literacy (6 credits), Computer & Information Literacy (3 credits), Quantitative Literacy (4 credits), and Breadth Requirement (18 credits).
