Associate of Science Degree
in General Studies

The University Studies program, along with study in the major, is designed to assist student in achieving the Citizen Scholar Objectives. The program consists of two sets of requirements: General Education Requirements and Depth Education Requirements. Students who have received an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree at any institution within the Utah System of Higher Education, or at another institution with which USU has an articulation agreement, will be considered to have fulfilled the General Education Requirements, but must still complete the Depth Education Requirements, as part of the requirements for the Bachelor's Degree. Applied Associate Degrees will not be considered as meeting the common body of knowledge requirements of Utah State University.

Competency Requirement (13 Credits)

The Citizen Scholar Objectives propose that students should be able to communicate effectively, utilize quantitative methods, make appropriate use of technology, and function effectively in groups. The competency requirements are structured to develop these skills.

Breadth Requirement (21 Credits)

General Education breadth requirements are intended to introduce students to the nature, history, and methods of different disciplines; and to help students understand the cultural, historical, and natural economic, scientific, and technological issues of today's global community.
Students must take a minimum of 18 total credits, including at least one course from each of the six categories show below.
At least two of the six breadth courses must be University Studies courses (USU 1300, 1320, 1340).
