Question

Q

I have space for 2 fruit trees in my yard. I would like to plant an apple (red delicious) and a peach (red Haven). Are these the best varieties for my area, and how about cross pollination. My neighbor across the fence has a peach tree and I have a crab apple near by.

Answer(s)

A

The crabapple will pollinate your apple tree as long as it is within 100 feet and you get sufficient bee activity.  The neighbor's peach tree should pollinate your peach tree as long as it is within 100 feet and you get sufficient bee activity.  Many peach varieties are self-pollinating, so if there is any doubt about your neighbor's tree you will not have a problem.
