Canning Presentation - Safe Methods for Preserving the Harvest < Back
Date(s):   07/16/2009
Time: 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Location: USU Ext. SLCo Gov. Center, Rm S1007, 2001 S. State St, SLC
It is only July, but never too early to learn about safe canning practices for your harvest. Sara Oldroyd, USU Extension Registered Dietician and FCS Agent, along with Ann Woodbury, Master Food Preserver, will instruct on the proper way to can based on the official USDA guidelines. According to Ann, “Those preserving food can avoid growth of the bacterium Clostridium botulism, a deadly form of food poisoning, by following USDA guidelines and maintaining an accurate dial pressure”. Val Chatwin will follow with a short presentation on canning tips for entry into the Salt Lake County and State Fairs. Light refreshments will be served. This class is FREE.
