James E. Bowns  
 

James E. Bowns is a Range Ecologist and Extension Range lands Specialist, as well as a Professor of Biology in a joint appointment with SUU and USU that he earned in 1965. Born and raised in eastern Utah, Dr. Bowns is a Veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He holds a BS in Forest and Range Management, a MS in Range Management, and a PhD in Range Ecology, all from Utah State University. He is currently appointed by the Governor to serve on the Utah Wildlife Board, the Utah Agricultural and Wildlife Damage Prevention Board, and works with the Utah Wolf Working Group to write a wolf management plan for Utah. (More to the point, Jim is widely considered to be the Grandfather of forest and range management in southern Utah.)
