How to Fit Large Trees Into Landscapes
Learn about the environmental and social values of large trees to communities, and ways to make room for large trees in crowded towns and cities. This presentation was recorded by Dr. Mike Kuhns at the High Desert Green Industry Conference in Redmond, Oregon, February 14, 2006. Versions also were presented at the Minnesota Shade Tree Short Course in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 21, 2006, the National Arbor Day Foundation's Community Forestry At Its Best Conference in Nebraska City in September 2002, and elsewhere. What People, and Trees, Think About Utility Tree Pruning
Learn how trees react to, and are affected by, utility tree pruning. Also, review the results of a study describing peoples' attitudes about such pruning and the people who do the pruning, and about the effects of a simple educational brochure on those attitudes. Suggestions are made for ways for utilities and tree advocates to promote good utility tree management. A short video clip also is included at the end that provides a good example of a utility helping the public understand the science and professionalism behind utility tree pruning. This presentation is adapted from talks Mike Kuhns gave at the 2005 Pacific Northwest ISA Conference, National Trees and Utilities Conference, ISA Conference, PNW Utility Vegetation Management Conference, Western Slope Tree Care Conference (Colorado), and the 2006 Minnesota Shade Tree Short Course.
