Equine

Horses are an important part of Utah’s economic and rural heritage.  The Utah State University Equine Teaching and Extension Team supports horse owners throughout the state by offering a variety of educational programs.  The Equine Team is a tremendous resource and asset to Utah’s Equine Industry.  The USU Extension equine programs have been well received throughout the state.  The Equine Teaching and Extension Team hosts many types of clinics thoughout the state from evening presentations to multi-day events.  To learn more about clinics and events hosted throughout the year, please go to the left hand side under clinics and view events by month. We welcome the input and suggestions from Utah horse owners on equine programming needs for your club or area. 

A 4 year Equine Science and Management Emphasis was introduced Fall 2007.  This program has attracted students from across the country.  We broke ground on a new Equine Education Center located in Wellsville, southern part of Cache Valley, which will expand and enhance our present program. The new facility will have two classrooms, office space, student living quarters, stabling for 44 head of horses, large indoor and outdoor riding arenas plus a breeding facility.  Students wil have ample opportunitiies for hands-on exposure to daily horse and facility care.   To learn more about this program, see link on this page. 

                                              Horse Show Judges' Trainings 2010
The Horse Show Judges' Short Course is scheduled for February 26-27, 2010 in Ogden, Utah. This two-day clinic give indepth insight into how classes are judged, scoring systems, use of score sheets and scribes.  Participants are given opportunities to judge a variety of classes, ask questions and develop greater skills and knowledge about judging and working with show management and competitors.  A brochure and registration form can be downloaded from the "Clinics" list.

Horse Show Judges' Certification is scheduled for March 26 - 27, 2010 in Saratoga Springs, Utah.  This two-day event provides a day of in class and live animal instruction on judging a variety of breeds and classes. Followed by a day of judging live classes, placing and turning in judges' cards. From this event a judges' list is composed and can be viewed on this site, click on Judge's List on left hand column.  A brochure and registration form can be downloaded from the "Clinics" list.
