Carpooling & Public Transit

Instead of commuting by yourself, there are other options that can reduce energy usage, and save you money!
Carpool. Many large companies and universities have boards where people can connect to carpool together.
Telecommute. It doesn’t hurt to ask. Many companies are recognizing the benefits to individuals and society that working from home provides. These include less stress, more time with family, reduced vehicle traffic on the roads.
Use public transit. Mass transit options are expanding in many states, including Utah. The Utah Transit Authority has recently expanded service, and will continue to do so if demand exists. Look into the options in your area-you might be surprised how easy it can be.
Bike it! If you don’t live too far from work, try using your bicycle when weather permits. It has the double benefit of being good for your health, as long as the air quality is not at dangerous levels. Check the Utah DEQ air quality page for air quality information.
What we are NOT recommending:
Purchasing a motorcycle or scooter to commute with, instead of your car. The reason for this is that the engines in motorcycles and scooters emit higher levels of the pollutants that cause bad air quality than cars do. Visit the EPA website for more information on upcoming changes to small engines to reduce pollution.
