Home Appliances

We all need home appliances, but we can choose ones that use less energy and save us money in the long term! The initial cost of an appliance is not always the best gauge of how much it will cost over the years. Energy Star appliances can save you money over the life of that product.

Refrigerators
Do you have an old refrigerator? Use EPA’s calculator to find out if it is time to retire it and buy a newer more efficient model.
Clothes washers
When replacing a clothes washer, look for front-loading models. They have the double benefit of using less water AND less electricity.

AND DON'T FORGET: Unplug those small appliances when they're not in use! TVs, stereos, computers, cell phone chargers and other small appliances all draw a small amount of power even when they are turned off. Unplug them, or use a power strip to save electricity and money.
