Meat vs. Grain & Vegetable Production
Believe it or not, what you choose to eat every day has an impact on the energy situation in the world. Grains, vegetables, and legumes have a much lower embodied energy than meat products, because energy is lost in converting plant material into meat.
You don’t have to become a vegetarian to make a difference. Just simply increasing the number of meat-free meals can help! For example, according to the Center for a New American Dream, if 1000 people replaced one meat meal per week with a vegetarian option, it would save 70,000 lbs of grain per year!
