National Mastitis Council

The results of the last National Animal Health Monitoring System survey suggest that additional information is needed on management of milking procedures and mastitis related events on dairies. State and regional levels of herd average somatic cell counts also suggest this need. Producers are losing a great deal of money due to lost quality bonuses. All of these reasons make this months web site important. It is the site of the National Mastitis Council (NMC) and can be found at:

Information and resources on milking procedures and mastitis control, prevention and eradication can be found in the form of brochures, fact sheets, and proceedings from NMC meetings. One important feature is to list peer-reviewed publications on the efficacy of premilking and postmilking teat dips. They also list updated regulations that pertain to the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. In total, there is so much information here that it is unlikely you will come away without finding something worthwhile on any question you might have on this subject. This is a must see site for anyone interested in this subject. ©
