State Winner and 1st Western Region Winner – Darlene Christensen
Award Description: The award was established in 1972 to encourage excellence in communications. The communications must be one fact sheet, brochure, bulletin or poster developed for an educational program and designed to inform, update and make the reader respond in a positive manner.
About the Recipient: Darlene Christensen is the Family & Consumer Sciences Extension/4-H Agent for Tooele County. She has a bachelor's and master's of science in home economics from the University of Wyoming.
Turkey Talk, a small color publication, was developed by Darlene Christensen. The publication was distributed state-wide to low-income families. During the holidays, low-income food baskets that provided a turkey also provided Turkey Talk. The publication promotes food safety and proper food preparation. More than 10,000 were distributed.
