WHAT IS FSNE?

The Food Stamp Nutrition Education (FSNE) provides nutrition education to families of all types and ages who are receiving or are eligible to receive food stamps or otherwise qualify as low income. FSNE offers nutrition education through individual and family instruction in the home and in small groups. The lessons are taught by Nutrition Education Assistants employed by Utah State University Extension Service.

The FSNE lessons are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines.

Aim for Fitness

  • Aim for a health weight.
  • Be physically active each day.

Build a Healthy Base

  • Let the Pyramid guide your food choices.
  • Choose a variety of grains daily, especially whole grains.
  • Choose a variety of fruits and vegetables daily.
  • Keep food safe to eat.

Choose Sensibly

  • Choose a diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol and moderate in total fat.
  • Choose beverages and foods to moderate your intake of sugars.
  • Choose and prepare foods with less salt.
  • If you drink alcoholic beverages, do so in moderation.

FSNE Nutrition Education Assistants Will:

  • Provide nutrition information
  • Give shopping tips
  • Help with menu planning
  • Teach you how to stretch your food dollar
  • Help you make wise food choices for your family
  • Share recipes
  • Work with you in the kitchen to prepare recipes
