November Gardening Tips

Drain and shut off sprinklers
Disconnect and store hoses.
Mulching around trees and shrubs can help protect them. Make sure to not pack the mulch tightly around the trunk.
After chrysanthemums or any other late blooming perennials have stopped blooming, cut stems back close to the ground.
Mulching around perennials will help protect them from frost.
Be sure not to store apples or pears with vegetables. The fruits give off ethylene gas which speeds up the breakdown of vegetables and will cause them to develop off flavors.
Rake up leaves from around fruit trees to help remove any disease-causing organisms that may overwinter on leaf debris.
Last chance to weed.
Clean and make repairs to any garden tools or equipment.
Cut back on water and fertilizer for houseplants.
